What other professions have you tried?
Prior to graduating from Purdue, I did a variety of things- working in landscaping, National Homes Corporation, Lafayette Life Insurance as a janitor and Osco's as a clerk.
Why did you choose insurance as a profession?
I joined our Company upon graduation from Purdue. Initially it was a stop gap job before I was going to go to graduate school. But, things changed once I began to understand the business and the opportunities that being successful in the industry could bring. I began to invest myself into the business and the industry and through this avenue I was able to pursue and accomplish my goals.
Why Henriott?
Because of my Dad. I joined the family business and my Dad gave me the opportunity, the mentoring and the freedom to grow the business as I saw fit. He was graceful enough to allow me to make decisions (some good and some not so good) and to learn and to develop my vision of what our Company could be both professionally and within our Community. For this, I am forever grateful.
Do you volunteer anywhere? If so, where and why?
This is an attribute of our culture of which I am very proud. We are blessed to live in a great and growing community and over the past 25 or 30 years, I believe that our small organization of 30 or 35 people has play a critical role in the continuing prosperity of our community.
Currently, I serve in several volunteer roles- I'm on the Lafayette Board of Works and on the Lafayette Hearing Authority. I'm on the Board of Lafayette Transitional Housing Center. I'm the Chair of the Economic and Community Development Council of Greater Lafayette Commerce. I'm on the leadership team of Community Commitment to Education which is responsible for Read to Succeed and bornlearning Academies. I teach an adult Sunday School class at First Christian Church called the Seekers (an appropriate name for this group!!). I also have the privilege to serve of the Board of Lafayette Community Bank and IU Arnett Hospital where I also chair their Board Committee on Quality and Safety.
What was your favorite TV show growing up?
Bonanza- The Monkeys- My Favorite Martian- Ed Sullivan Show- Gunsmoke- I could go on.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Narrow mindedness
If you could choose one amenity to add to your workplace, what would it be?
A massage therapist!!!
What was your all-time best Halloween costume?
I belonged to a church class called the Lamplighters and I was a lamp post. I don't do a lot of dressing up at Halloween.
What’s the one dish you absolutely, positively will never, ever eat?
Rocky Mountain Oysters
If you could close your eyes and be anywhere on earth when they opened, where would you be?
On a sail boat in the Caribbean or on a ski slope in Colorado
